Vietnam is the 13th most populous country in the world

According to the preliminary results of the 2009 population and housing census, Vietnam’s population reached 85.78 million on April 1, 2009, and ranks the 3rd most populous country in Southeast Asia and the 13th most populous country in the world.

The average annual population growth rate between 1999 and 2009, fell to 1.2 percent per year, a decline of 0.5 percent from 10 years ago - the lowest rate of growth in the past 50 years.
