Matt Jackson (he/him) became UNFPA Representative in Viet Nam in August 2023.
Prior to the appointment in Viet Nam, Matt was Director of UNFPA’s London Representation Office covering Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom, where he led political engagement strategies, built partnerships across various sectors including academia and technology and fashion industries, and delivered advocacy to achieve results results across UNFPA’s 150+ country offices.
Matt has over twenty years’ experience in international and multilateral for a specializing in sustainable development, gender equality, human rights and climate change.
Prior to joining UNFPA in 2017, Matt was a diplomat at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) serving at the UK Mission to the United Nations in New York as Head of International Development and Climate Change where he negotiated the Sustainable Development Goals. Previous FCO roles include Head of Strategic Programmes focused on human rights and gender equality; Chief of Staff to the UK Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative on Climate Change; and Head of the Europe Climate Change and Energy and Climate Economic Teams. Matt has also worked for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, and as Team Leader on Sustainable Development at the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
Matt holds an MSc in International Development from SOAS, University of London and a BA (double) in Spanish and French from the University of Manchester.
