2024 Run for Zero Violence Against Women and Girls in Viet Nam
Run for Zero Violence Against Women and Girls in Vietnam

In alignment with the Global Campaign of 16 Days of activism against gender-based violence in 2024 with the theme “Towards 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and platform for action: Unite to end violence against women”, and the National Action Month on gender equality from 15 November - 15 December themed "Ensuring social security, empowering and creating opportunities for women and girls to achieve gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence”, the 3rd Run Race entitled “Run for Zero Violence Against Women and Girls in Vietnam” will take place on December 8, 2024.  This event will be held at Tran Nhan Tong pedestrian street, Thien Quang Lake in Hanoi.

The Running Race champions a vision for a joyful, violence-free life for women and girls, who are often disproportionately affected by gender-based violence - by using a widely loved and accessible sports activity. In 2024, this race aims to gather 2,000 runners of all ages, genders, and abilities, each embodying a personal commitment to a future with  Zero Violence Against Women and Girls in Viet Nam. Runners will choose between two courses, symbolically named the Love (2.5km) and Companion (5km) stages, to reflect solidarity and the shared message of respecting women and girls, and break the silence to stop the violence in this crucial course.

This is the third running race following the successful events in 2022 and 2023, organized by the Center for Studies and Applied Sciences in Gender – Family – Women and Adolescent (CSAGA), as commissioned by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in Vietnam in partnership with the Government of Australia. This race also champions inclusivity by encouraging and facilitating participation from vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities, the LGBTIQ+ community, children, and young people, creating a unified platform to advocate for a future free from violence against women and girls in Viet Nam.

In addition to the valued contributions and ongoing support of traditional sponsors - UNFPA in Viet Nam and the Australian Government - this year’s run also welcomes contributions from a wide array of stakeholders, including Embassies, International organizations, private sectors, and individuals. This diverse coalition underscores a shared commitment to ending violence against women and girls. Beyond the race itself, the event aims to be a “Festival of Love and Happiness”, providing a wonderful opportunity for participants to come together, raise awareness, share messages of respect for women and girls, and collectively break the silence to stop the violence.
