"Red Carding” Violence Against Women and Girls

calendar_today 10 December 2018

HA NOI, 10/12/2018 - The Australian Embassy today hosted a special event as part of The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. With the theme of ‘Red Carding’ Violence Against Women and Girls, the event featured the participation of three well-known Vietnamese football players from the Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) Football Club and over 120 girls and boys from Thang Long Junior High School and VinSchool.

The event promoted the message of gender equality, which is vital to addressing the underlying cause of violence against women and girls. It also highlighted that men need to participate in addressing violence against women and that the next generation has the chance to reset gender roles and promote equality and safety in their relationships and public lives. This was symbolised by the football players, who have stirred a national pride in what Vietnam is capable of achieving and illustrate the ability of the next generation to rewrite what is possible and acceptable.

The event was organised in association with UNFPA Viet Nam.
