Every girl counts: ending gender-biased sex selection in Asia

Over 140 million females are estimated to be missing globally, due to the harmful practice of gender-biased sex selection in favour of male offspring.
This can lead to long-lasting social and economic consequences and gender imbalance.
With funding from the Government of Norway, UNFPA launched a gender-transformative program in Bangladesh, Nepal and Viet Nam, where son-preference prevailed, to drive positive changes through legislation, education and public awareness.
